Pretending

Harrison likes to pretend. A lot. It can be very basic or quite elaborate. He will pretend that he is eating cake when he is actually eating a turkey sandwich. Another one of his favorite things to do is to pretend that all of our family members are all mixed up - I'm Daddy, Daddy is Mommy, Harrison is Henry, Henry is Harrison. Oh, how that makes him laugh.

With the warm weather upon us we have been playing outside a lot, which has inspired even more pretend play. Harrison asked me if I wanted to play 'pirates' with him the other day.  I said yes, but informed him that I wasn't sure how to play pirates. (I'm terrible at playing and being creative with the boys. I was sitting on our couch watching the boys in our playroom a couple of weeks ago thinking to myself that I really need to play more, inspire creativity, stimulate wonder, get down and dirty, and encourage imagination. And then I had the perfect solution - Mary Ann - now she knows how to play!) Anyway, so Harrison explained how we play pirates. "We look for the bad guys and then attack them." I told him that I don't attack people and I thought maybe this pirate play seemed a little aggressive. I told him that we should play flower shop. He looked at me and said, "No. I want to play pirates". So, we did. Henry and I were the bad guys, got chased through the yard, captured, and then taken up to the pirate ship.

Anyway, here are some pictures of the boys pretending their rocket ship was a boat.
