Well, today on my quest to find a house for my Dad I literally got stuck in the mud. As you can see from the pictures, it wasn't like I was trying something risky, I just misjudged the land. I thought it was frozen grass, but it was not. Quite muddy. And just like that I got stuck. I was out about 10 miles from my house past Unionville (it's not really like 'Deliverance' out there, but just for dramatic effect the banjos should be cued now) and turned down a driveway with a for-sale sign, but I realized quickly that it was not the house I was looking for, so I tried to turn around in the driveway. It didn't work. So, I quickly called Matt and he was on his way to rescue us.
Then I called my Dad. I was sure he could offer me some sage advice on how I might rescue myself, plus I wanted to have someone on the line in case any crazys knocked on my window.
During my distress calls to my husband and my Dad, my Mom called with an urgent message that she needed some help with a critical shoe decision while shopping in Chicago (should she get the danskos or not?). I once again reminded her that there are indeed more important things in life like the devastation in Haiti and me being stuck in the mud with my 16 month old way out in the boonies.
Within 20 minutes Matt was pulling me out of the mud. He was giddy with excitement since he has never before been able to put to use his rescue ropes (he called them something else, but I can't remember at the moment). It must have been fate, because then we both went down the road 100 yards to the house I was actually looking for and got a personal tour from the homeowners. Matt knocked on the door to get permission to take pictures of the outside of the house and she quickly invited us in for a tour. It was great fun.
